Thor Simonsen is a Danish-Canadian artist and entrepreneur.

Originally from the Faroe Islands, Thor spent his childhood and teenage years in Iqaluit, Nunavut, where he currently lives with his wife and young son.

Throughout his colourful career, Thor has worked an array of occupations, including music producer, DJ, event organizer, personal trainer, graphic designer, school teacher, performance coach, and more. His overarching goal is to “create beautiful works and help empower others to express their truest self.”

In 2016, Thor founded the Iqaluit-based consulting-and-production company, Hitmakerz. The company has 3 employees and a mission to “help improve quality of life for Nunavummiut using art, media, entertainment and education.

The company organizes musical and educational workshops in communities around Nunavut. To date, 11 workshops have been held in communities across all 3 regions of the territory.

Hitmakerz also works directly with individual Inuit artists to produce albums and cultivate careers in music. To date, they’ve released 5 full-length albums, mostly in Inuktitut, including the Juno-nominated “Sedna” by Kelly Fraser.

Thor holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Copenhagen. He spends his time working, travelling, reading books, and trying to teach his baby to beatbox.
